Libby indicted on five counts

Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby was indicted Friday on counts of obstruction of justice, perjury, and making false statements to the grand jury. White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove remains under investigation as part of the probe into the leak of CIA agent Valerie Plame's identity.

While the indictments are a victory for those who have been fighting for accountability of the excesses of this administration, they mark a sad day for the country.

The events of today will feed the cynicism of many citizens who already hold a deep disdain for politicians and the workings of government. It is not their fault for feeling that way. This government has failed its people, and these events serve as another example of just how badly.

UPDATE: Think Progress has posted the indictments. Fitzgerald's website is getting slammed.

Not nearly enough...is treason really asking too much? It's good that they are waiting on Rove (if they have to)...get it right! Go after Cheney!

Hope you had a good b-day, and aced your exam!

I think the investigation is being extended because they have information showing Cheney and Rove are the main players. The problem may be having enough evidence to charge them with a crime. However, it is great to see someone from the Bush administration take the fall, but, honestly, Libby is just a patsy.

The AP is reporting tonight that "Official A" in the indictment is Karl Rove according to multiple sources.

It's anybody's guess on whether Rove will also be indicted or like Mike said, if this leads to Cheney.

What's amazing is that many people not pleased with this investigation have said all along there's nothing there. We know now that Rove and Libby were the two leakers. Libby has resigned, because of the indictments but there sits Rove hanging on to power.
