Carrying a little stick and speaking loudly in Milwaukee

"The situation in Iraq is grave and deteriorating. There is no path that can guarantee success, but the prospects can be improved."

From the opening of the Iraq Study Group report's Executive Summary.

McCain is lambasting a phased, goal-oriented withdrawal to a support capacity.

AP- "Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., a 2008 presidential hopeful, took strong issue with the commission's call for phasing out the U.S. combat role in Iraq by 2008 and focusing instead more on training and advising the Iraqi army. He rejected the idea that the Army and Marines cannot spare more combat forces for Iraq duty... 'There's only one thing worse than an over-stressed Army and Marine Corps, and that's a defeated Army and Marine Corps.'"

This is why I fear him as president, just like Colin Powell. Powell was a dove, he knew we were going into this thing wrongly but he didn't want to say anything for fear of putting his troops in the middle. He thought it best to have a singular, and wrong voice.

Now where are the troops?

McCain's loyalties are with the morale of the troops and not the best course of action for the country. You can't be president and general. This was an ill-conceived war. If we need to commit more resources and people, then so be it. But you're not going to get to do it without a plan and exit strategy, and that WILL be a goal-oriented, non-timetable, phased withdrawal to a training and support capacity.
