Milwaukee finally has a liberal on the radio. Nicole Devin won WISN's Milwaukee Talk Star competition and will take over the morning drive timeslot on the station. Congratulations and best of luck to Nicole.
Next step: Christopher Walken for President.

Yeah, she "won" alright. Just because the internet powers that be voted her in because she's a nutjob democrat. She sucked in the first round yet wasn't voted off because the voting was rigged. "Vote for Nicole because she's a Democrat and we want to teach ClearChannel a lesson" was the gist of many websites.
Must be rough to have no talent, have people cheat for you, to ensure a $50,000 minimum per year job for 2 years. If there was no money at stake, fine, stuff it all you want because it means nothing. But people that actually had talent and radio persona (and probably needed the money) were to be voted off because of their political views, from people who don't even know what WISN is.
Her "winning" topics? "I agree 100% with Peg Lautenschlager that a woman’s access to contraception is a constitutional right." Enh? Sure, I agree that women _should_ have access to contraception, but first find that in the constitution and you won't sound like a moron. That, and the old beaten to death "honey, do you think i look fat?" bit.
No talent? Check
Nothing to talk about? Check
No radio personality? Check
Then again, Milwaukee radio sucks anyway. Maybe she'll fit in after all.
Be proud that she won a rigged $100,000 contest.
Oh boo hoo. As if other contestants weren't e-mailing everyone they knew and their grandmother. Conservatives control the rest of commercial talk radio in this area. It's almost as if some people feel threatened by having another perspective out there.
By the way, I encouraged everyone to check out the contest and vote for her in Round 1. What a terrible person I am for getting people involved.
If you disagree with how this contest was set up where it allowed everyone a say in the process, maybe your beef is with the program director Jerry Bott. Get over it.
Hmm. So what you're saying is that it doesn't matter if a person has no skills, but based on their political affiliation they're automatically more qualified for a job than people who actually deserve it.
It's bad enough that Milwaukee radio (both music-wise and talk-wise) sucks, so let's make it worse.
I'm even willing to bet that most people actually stuffed the voting not because these sheep were told to, but because "uh huh huh i vote her cuz she's a chick huh huh."
Maybe we should have put another racist on Milwaukee airwaves? How about someone that talks tough about prosecuting for drug crimes, and the gets busted for obtaining illegal narcotic subscriptions himself? Maybe we should have picked someone directly from one of President Bush's faux town hall meetings on social security?
Are those the qualities you are looking for?
Wasn'the point of the contest to pick somebody new, a fresh face that didn't have experience?
Give her a chance, before you criticize her.
Is the Christopher Walken thing for real?
I think the Walken thing is a fake. It's fun though. Maybe they'll end up drafting him into the race.
Actually, she did win (without the quotes). She received the most votes in the contest, as conducted by WISN and according to the rules. If say, Evangelical Christians gathered enough strength to vote down a gay rights law, would that constitute voter fraud? No. If the apathetic want to stay home and not vote, the result will be that the people with the strength and will to make change will be represented. That a democrat won this contest doesn't automatically mean the contest was "rigged" as the poster suggests.
I believe that the sudden cry that this contest was unfair is more a result of political disappointment, rather than any sympathy for the talented or needy. WISN opened the door for a radio personality to emerge through a popularity contest. If they wanted someone with experience, they would have filled the position through a normal hiring process. A vast majority of the contestants were not experienced, and did not sound professional on the radio. All 3 of the finalists all have experience speaking in public, and were clearly suited to learn the craft. WISN would not have allowed them through the initial screening process if they were not qualified. A majority of listeners have chosen Nicole as the winner. Now it's up to WISN to invest the time and training in the winner, to make sure that she succeeds at keeping listeners tuned in.
Personally, I think Nicole will be good for the morning show, and good for the station. She has the potential to be funny and entertaining, and just controversial enough to get people fired up and calling in.
In the end...left, right...who cares. What the station needs is to grow their number of listeners, and to sell advertising. It's obvious that it's to their benefit to appeal to the other half of their broadcast area.
90.7 is actually the Wisconsin Public Radio affiliate, and I tend to think they do a pretty good job of having guests on from all over the political spectrum.
C'mon now Scott. Anything that isn't pro Bush (i.e. factual reporting, investigative journalism), is liberal.
By that logic, 90.7 WHAD, is liberal, because they fairly protray both sides of the issue, and have guests on from both sides of the issue.
So everything is liberally biased, except for Fox News, and the WSJ.
Okay, make that commercial radio then. And having some hippie call into Sykes doesn't count. :)
